New Baldur's Gate 3 mod restores some very cute dialogue between Withers and a spunky Tiefling child, and I'm gonna need Larian to tell my why it was cut
New Baldur's Gate 3 Mod Restores Deleted Withers-Arabella Dialogue
A new mod for Baldur's Gate 3 has restored a previously cut scene featuring dialogue between Withers and the Tiefling child Arabella, leaving players both amused and curious about why it was removed from the final game.
As reported by PC Gamer, YouTuber SlimX uncovered the scrapped dialogue through a simple scripting adjustment. In response to popular demand, the mod is now available for free on SlimX’s Patreon.
While brief and seemingly inconsequential, the scene provides a rare humanizing glimpse of Withers, the undead seneschal. In it, Arabella teases Withers by giving him the nickname “Bone Man,” a moniker she had never used before. Despite the playful ribbing, Withers handles the situation patiently, revealing a softer side rarely shown in the main game.
Arabella remarks:
"‘Withers’? I'm not gonna remember that! I'm calling you 'Bone Man.'"
She also jokes that Withers is "funny" and "like my grandpa when he didn't get his nap," eliciting a gentle response from the otherwise stoic character. The scene subtly sets up the origins of Arabella's nickname while maintaining her playful personality.
It’s possible the scene was cut because of tonal dissonance—it transitions from lighthearted teasing to the tragic revelation that Arabella’s parents are dead, which might feel jarring within the main narrative. Whether the scene was intentionally removed or hidden due to a scripting oversight remains unclear. Regardless, the mod offers fans a charming addition that deepens Withers’ characterization.
