Assassin's Creed Hexe: Everything we know about the new flagship AC game

Assassin’s Creed Hexe: Everything We Know About Ubisoft’s Dark New Entry

Ubisoft’s upcoming Assassin’s Creed Hexe is shaping up to be a bold, witchy addition to the long-running franchise. First teased during a Ubisoft Forward presentation in 2022 alongside Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Hexe has intrigued fans with its ominous tone and mysterious setting.

A Dark and Witchy Assassin’s Creed

The maiden Assassin’s Creed Hexe teaser lasts only 30 seconds, but it already sets the stage for a darker, more atmospheric entry in the series. The trailer opens with haunting music, rotting trees, and dead leaves drifting in the wind. It concludes with an Assassin insignia formed from broken branches, hanging above an open flame—a stark departure from the bombastic reveal trailers of past Assassin’s Creed games.

Marc-Alexis Cote of Ubisoft described Hexe as a “new flagship title” that will be “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.”

Although the setting hasn’t been officially confirmed, an uncorroborated Bloomberg report suggests that Hexe will take players to 16th-century Central Europe, during the height of the Holy Roman Empire. This era was marked by widespread witch trials, with an estimated 80,000 people executed for alleged dealings with the devil. Fans of historical Assassin’s Creed entries are already intrigued by the potential of exploring this grim chapter of history.

Development and Leadership

Assassin’s Creed Hexe is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the studio responsible for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and the franchise’s debut in 2007. The team brings decades of experience in crafting expansive, historically rich open-world games.

Creative director Clint Hocking—known for leading projects like Far Cry 2 and Watch Dogs: Legion—has been brought on to oversee Hexe. His involvement signals a focus on technical ambition and innovative design, aligning with Ubisoft’s description of the game as “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed.”

Animus Hub Integration

Hexe will also tie into The Animus Hub, a connective platform first launched with Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The Animus Hub is designed to serve as a unifying space across multiple Assassin’s Creed titles, and Ubisoft producer Andrée-Anne Boisvert confirmed that it will be integrated into future flagship and multiplayer titles, including Hexe.

“The Animus Hub will continue to evolve and integrate with upcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe, multiplayer projects such as Codename Invictus, and future unannounced games,” Boisvert explained.

Release Window and Speculation

Ubisoft has not announced a firm release date for Hexe. Based on prior announcements and Animus Hub integration plans, the game is expected to launch sometime in 2026 or 2027. Some industry speculation suggests that Hexe could be pushed to 2027 to avoid competing with major releases like GTA 6, but this remains unconfirmed.

Conclusion

With a dark, witchy aesthetic, a historical setting ripe for narrative exploration, and experienced leadership at the helm, Assassin’s Creed Hexe is poised to stand out in the franchise. Ubisoft fans eager for a different take on the series’ formula should keep a close eye on the Animus Hub for future updates.
